The HK+ Research Group of the Russian Studies Institute (Director: Professor Pyo Sang-yong, Department of Russian Language) of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies held a humanities lecture for Russian language students at the audiovisual room of Wowoo High School in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 3:00 PM. As part of the HK+(II) <Regional Humanities Center> project, Professor Hwang Seong-woo of the Russian Studies Institute gave a lecture on the topic of “Two Years of the Russia-Ukraine War: Analysis and Prospects, and Implications for the Korean Peninsula.” Professor Hwang Seong-woo gave a customized lecture for high school students on three perspectives of the Russia-Ukraine War that broke out on February 24, 2022: biased domestic and international perspectives, the failure of diplomacy by the countries involved to prevent the war, and the future process of reorganizing the international order and implications for the Korean Peninsula. The students listened to the story about the Russia-Ukraine War with a serious attitude throughout, and showed off their prior knowledge of Russia through surprise quizzes in between. Hwaseong Wau High School is located in Hwaseong New Town and is a new school that opened last year. The students who attended this event were the first class of Wau High School who are studying Russian. Before the event, Wau High School Principal Ko Ki-yoon and Russian Research Institute Director Pyo Sang-yong exchanged a memorandum of understanding for academic and personnel exchanges between the two institutions.
