The 12th National University (graduate) Student Russian Debate Competition was held.
On May 20, 2022 (Fri), the Russian Institute of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (Director: Professor Pyo Sang-yong) held the 12th National University (graduate) Russian Language Debate Contest. Organizers have been conducting the event online since the 10th competition.
Co-hosted by the Russian Research Institute of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and the Russian Embassy in Korea, the competition is an annual event held since 2011 to raise social interest in learning Russian and find talent in related fields. In order to encourage the eight students who reached the finals of the competition, honorary professor Kim Hyun-taek (Nore Department of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies) and ambassador Andrei Kulik (Russian Embassy) from all over the country attended.
Under the aim of motivating students with little experience in Russian language training, the 12th Russian language debate designated participation as 'college (graduate) students with a Russian-speaking stay of less than two years' and restricted the participation of translation and translation graduate students.
Organizers selected the final debate topics as 'Vladivostok,' 'Travel' and 'Exploration' to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Arseniev, a famous traveler and explorer in the Russian Far East. The students read the related topic prepared by the organizers and expressed their views online.
As a result of the screening, Kim Ho-joon, a student at Sungkyunkwan University, won the grand prize. The grand prize winners will receive awards, scholarships, and a complete collection of Vladimir Arseniev. In addition, the winners of the Gold Award and Encouragement Award will also be awarded a scholarship prepared by the Russian Embassy in Korea and a certificate in the name of the president of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and the Russian ambassador to Korea. A separate awards ceremony is scheduled at the Russian Embassy in Korea on May 27, 2022.
