Russian Institute to Hold 50th Anniversary Academic Conference and Ceremony
On June 30, our university's Russian Research Institute (Director Pyo Sang-yong) held an academic conference and a ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of its foundation. Under the theme of 'Russia-Ukraine Conflict and the Korean Peninsula,' Professor Kim Sung-jin of Duksung Women's University and Professor Lee Sang-joon of Kookmin University presented changes in international order and the Korean government's Eurasian policy tasks after the Russian-Ukraine war.
In the following roundtable, the heads of Russian research institutes at Seoul National University, Kookmin University, Hanyang University, and Baejae University were invited to discuss the current direction of Russian studies, focusing on the functions and activities of the institute.
The 50th anniversary ceremony began with congratulatory speeches from Park Jong-soo, chairman of the Northern Economic Cooperation Committee, Hong Hyun-ik, president of the National Diplomatic Academy, and Park Jung-un, president of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and more than 70 domestic Russian researchers attended to look back on the past 50 years. In particular, a plaque of appreciation was delivered to the former director of the Russian Institute, who contributed to the development of the institute, and the former president who supported the institute's HK research project.
