Russian Research Institute 2022 Korea-Russia Think Tank Network Construction Project

 

 



The Russian Research Institute (Director: Pyo Sang-yong) carried out a project to build a network of Korean and Russian think tanks hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Seminars held in Moscow from December 11 to 17, 2022 were held at the Russian International Affairs Committee (RIAC) on the 12th, at the Moscow International University (MGIMO) on the 13th, and at the International Economic and International Relations Research Institute (IMEMO) under the Russian Academy of Sciences on the 14th.

 

As the first event, the meeting was held jointly with the Russian International Affairs Commission (RIAC) under the theme of 'Great Transformation of the World Order and Russia's Foreign Policy.' At a meeting held at the Russian International Affairs Commission (RIAC) meeting on Monday, December 12, the two sides exchanged views on the U.S.-Russia relationship regarding the current global order transition, Russia-China relations, changes in relations between Russia and North Korea, and risks from the North Korean nuclear issue. At the meeting, they agreed that the necessity and value of forming an expert network and holding regular seminars for the development of Korea-Russia relations centered on think tanks from the two countries are high.

As the second event, the Moscow University of International Relations (MGIMO) held a seminar under the theme of 'Ukraine Crisis and Korea-Russia Relations.' On December 13 (Tue), the first session at the Moscow University of International Relations (MGIMO) was under the theme of Northeast Asia after the Ukrainian War, and the second session was under the theme of 'Korea-Russia relations after the Ukrainian War.'


As the third event, a roundtable was held on December 14 (Wed) at the International Economic and International Relations Research Institute (IMEMO) under the theme of Northeast Asia from a New Regional Perspective. The meeting, held at IMEMO, was a meaningful occasion to analyze the situation in Northeast Asia from a new perspective, discuss relations between Russia and North Korea, Russia and South Korea, and explore the possibility of future Korea-Russia cooperation amid difficulties.

 

In the future, the Russian Institute will continue to maintain its network with the Moscow University of International Relations (MGIMO) and the Russian Academy of Sciences' World Economic and International Relations (IMEMO) and hold international symposiums.
