The Korean Eurasian Society holds a joint international academic conference with the Chinese Academy of Sciences at Incheon National University.

On Friday, October 27, the Russian Institute held an international academic conference jointly with the Korean Eurasian Society and the Incheon National University Chinese Academy at the Songdo Campus of Incheon National University.

 

The conference, which began with a welcoming speech by Ahn Chi-young, Director of the Chinese Academy of Sciences at Incheon National University, and congratulatory speeches by Russian Ambassador to Korea Andrei Kulik, Incheon Metropolitan City International Relations Ambassador Jang Je-hak, Jeon Dong-jun, President of the Korean Society of Eurasian Studies, and Pan En Vice Director of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences' Frontier Research Institute, started with a congratulatory speech, titled 'The Yoon Seok-ryeol government and Korea-Russia, With the theme of 'Korea-China relations', it opened a venue for various discussions on the relationship between Korea, Russia, and China.

 

The first panel of the seminar was 'The Yoon Seok-ryeol government's China policy: Is it possible to escape the new Cold War frame?' by Professor Lee Nam-joo of Sungkonghoe University and 'China's Korean Peninsula policy and Sino-Korean relations following changes in great power relations' by Professor Bi Yingda of Shandong University's Northeast Asian School. The topic of ‘Perspective of Korea’ and ‘Choice of Strategic Goals and the Direction of Korea-China Relations’ by Pan En, Vice Director of the Frontier Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, were presented.

Through these topics, the presenters of this panel evaluated the Yoon Seok-ryeol government's policy toward China and expressed various opinions on China's position.

In the second panel on the rapidly changing situation and Korea-Russia relations, Professor Aleksandr Vorontsov from the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences spoke on ‘Russia’s perspective on Korea-Russia relations under the Yoon Seok-ryeol administration’ and Research Professor Kim Seon-rae of the Institute for Russian Studies at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies said ‘ Presentations were made on the topics of ‘The current status of Korea-Russia economic cooperation after the Ukraine War’ and Professor Vladimir Tikhonov of the University of Oslo on ‘The Yoon Seok-ryeol government and Korea-Russia relations: A peace-oriented approach to the Korean Peninsula is required.’

 

At this point, more than a year after the launch of the Yoon Seok-yeol government, we evaluate the Yoon Seok-yeol government's policies toward Russia and China, and discuss the positions of Russia and China on these issues as well as issues of conflict between bilateral and multilateral parties. It was a meaningful academic conference in that it provided a forum for discussion between domestic and foreign experts.
