Seocho-gu Banpo Library and Book Fair Event Held
On Friday, November 1, at 6:30 PM, the Russian Studies Institute (Director Professor Pyo Sang-yong of the Russian Language Department) held a public lecture and book fair event on the theme of ‘Easy Eurasia: Hidden Treasure’ at the Seocho-gu Banpo Library to celebrate the National Research Foundation of Korea’s Humanities Week. The Russian Studies Institute participates in the Humanities Week event hosted by the National Research Foundation of Korea every year as part of the Humanities Korea Plus (HK+) project. This event was planned to be held in conjunction with the Banpo Citizens’ Lecture, which is held every Friday for a total of eight weeks starting from Friday, October 4.
On Friday, November 1, a book fair event was held to distribute books published by the Russian Studies Institute and books from the Banpo Library to students. At the same time, there was a time to meet author Seo Byeong-yong, who was giving the lecture, and to present a book signed by the author as a gift. All 60 registered students were prepared to receive gifts. The lecture topics are “Pilgrimage and Festival: Mechanisms of Reconciliation Beyond Conflict” and “Hidden Treasures of Eurasia: Georgia, Armenia, and Art Tours of Russia,” and the lectures will be given for four weeks each. Professor Lee Hyung-gyu of the Institute of History and Culture at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, who was in charge of the first topic, gave lectures on pilgrimage routes in Russia and around the world, the Spanish food festival of pollution and purity, and the Kurentovanje rite of passage in Slovenia. Author Seo Byeong-yong, a famous travel writer, shared vivid and specific photos and talked about his own experiences in Georgia and Armenia, which have recently become very popular among domestic travelers. Author Seo is also preparing a tour of the Trans-Siberian Railway and art tours in St. Petersburg.
