On January 10, 2020 (Friday), the Russian Research Institute held an annual seminar under the title of “Russia 2020 Prospects” as part of the issuance of the annual report RUSSIA REPORT in the International Conference Room of the Minerva Complex on the Seoul Campus. This seminar is a regular academic event held every January by the Russian Research Institute. About 50 people, including Russian experts and academic successors, attended this event.
At this academic event, which began with the opening remarks by Sang-yong Pyo, Director of the Russian Institute, and the congratulatory speech by Professor Hong-seop Lee of National Defense University, the presenters evaluated Russia in 2019 and predicted 2020. In the first meeting, which was moderated by Seong-Hoon Jee, a professor of Korean language at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, in-depth discussions were held on domestic politics (Se-Ho Jang), economy (Jong-Moon Lee), and external relations (Duk-Jun Jang). At the second meeting, moderated by Professor Kim Soo-hwan, there was a wide discussion on military security (Kim Gyu-cheol), Korea-Russia relations (Hyun Seung-soo), and social culture (Ra Seung-do). In particular, Rha Seung-do, HK research professor at the Russian Institute, presented remarkable phenomena in the Russian social and cultural field last year under the theme of 'Ahead of a new decade: Searching for answers in the past'. The year 2020 was designated as 'the year'.
