Kim Hye-jin, HK Research Professor at the Russian Research Institute, participated as a presenter in the 16th annual international conference of Lotman Days, “The End: Finality and Renewal in Culture,” held at Tallinn University in Estonia from June 10 to 12, 2026. Established in 2009, Lotman Days is an annual academic conference series hosted by Tallinn University and serves as a platform for exploring key questions arising from the research of Yuri Lotman, one of the world’s leading scholars of semiotics.

On June 12, Professor Kim gave a presentation titled “Миграция украинских кореянок в Южную Корею и вопрос языка: от разрыва жизненного пути к реконструкции идентичности” (“Migration of Ukrainian Korean Women to South Korea and the Question of Language: From a Disruption in the Life Course to the Reconstruction of Identity”) in a sociolinguistics panel. The presentation focused on the linguistic dimension of Professor Kim’s ongoing research into the sociocultural adaptation of Koryo-in women from Ukraine who came to South Korea following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022. In particular, it examined the relationship between language and identity in the process of adaptation.
